Our School Vision
“The only thing that matters is faith expressing itself through love.”
(Galations 5:6)
“Following Jesus’ example, we seek to grow good people who are ready to make a difference to the world around them.”
Our school vision guides everything we do at St John's. The best way to experience it is to come and see for yourself and visit the school. We would be more than happy to show you around.
We asked our most important part of the school community, the children, about our school vision and they said:
"The Bible verse is important because it shows that we’re a Christian school."
" The vision reminds us that it doesn’t matter what people think about us because we are ALL important and we ALL have so much to offer to the world."
At St John’s, we place high importance on our Christian Values.
Our core Christian Values are: Faith, Love and Hope.
Our values help us to live good lives, unlock our potential and give us strength to be the loving and respectful community that makes our school such a special place to be.
“Teach a child how he should live and he will remember it all his life.”
(Proverbs 22:6)
Faith
‘…faith as small as a mustard seed…can move mountains…’
(Matthew 17:20)
Our core value of faith is all about how we make our own faith journey during our time at St John's. Everyone has the opportunity to develop their own views of the world around them, whether this is a religious or non-religious view.
We want all individuals to feel included, safe, secure and valued. We all have the right to live in the way that we wish to, whilst at the same time, respecting the views and opinions of others.
We want members of our school community to recognise that we can all make a difference. If something in the world seems unfair then what can we do about it?
Our children said.....
'It’s important that people believe in what they want to believe.'
'I find it really interesting to learn about other faiths. It’s amazing because sometimes lots of faiths seem very similar to each other.'
' We should trust each other with faith'
'It’s important to have faith in ‘you’.'
'The soldiers in the war had to faith in themselves and each other even though they were going into the unknown.'
'I have faith that I will get better at things that I find hard.'
Love
‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.’
(John 15:12)
Our core value of love is all about the compassion that we can show to each other and the world around us.
We recognise that we must learn to love ourselves before we can show kindness to others. We are all an integral part of our school family. The love and support that we show to each other ensures that everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
Our children said.....
'We must love each other and it’s important that our actions match our words.'
'God has taught us how to love.'
'Love is the flickering light in someone’s heart.'
'Love is making a difference in someone’s life.'
'Everyone needs love.'
'Love means generosity, kindness, caring and comforting.'
Hope
‘I alone know the plans I have for you…plans to bring about the future you hope for.’
(Jeremiah 29:11)
Our core value of hope is all about looking to the future, not just our own personal futures but that of the world too. We work hard to create opportunities for everybody to unlock their potential. We want all individuals to have ambitious aspirations and believe they can do anything in life! We recognise that life isn’t always easy and that it’s important to show resilience when things get tricky.
Our children said.....
'Hope should be with you forever.'
'Hope is like a candle shining in the darkness or a star in the night sky.'
'Hope keeps us going when things are hard.'
'Having hope in your heart makes your heart grow.'
'When I’m scared having hope makes me feel like there’s a small candle burning and it reminds me that I’m not on my own.'
