Mathematics
At St John's we support pupils to move from reception to Y6 and ready for high school through a carefully sequenced curriculum following the White Rose Hub scheme of planning. Teachers adapt planning to support pupil's needs and we will split our 3 classes across a phase (e.g. Y1 and Y2) into 4 smaller classes for more focussed learning. We want pupils to develop a deep understanding of mathematics which means being very fluent with their knowledge e.g. times tables as well as being able to show their mastery of the learning through developing their reasoning about number.
Across EYFS and KS1 we are taking part in a new approach to mastering number and the children have been benefiting from an additional mathematics slot each day focusing on developing their sense of number. The intial signs are very promising and we will share more with our families through the year.
Below you will find an overview of the learning in each year group across the school. There are also two files. One shows the progression in knowledge and skills across the national curriculum. The other shows what children need to achieve to be 'ready to progress' to the next phase of learning in light of the missed school time due to the pandemic.
